C & J Family Picnic
Welcome to the Party!
Revitalizing Old Traditions
“ I remember the old days when C & J used to hold annual company-wide picnics at Vasona Park in the 80s and 90s. We’d BBQ, thrust our arms deep into trash cans full of ice water to liberate ice cold sodas, and sweat ourselves dry playing softball under a summer sun,” recalls Chris Reno, Project Engineer at C & J. “We would get so beat from going so hard (not to mention crashing from the sugar high) we would be asleep by the time we got home.”
The enjoyment of this year’s celebration was no different, except that the activities were a lot less strenuous since there was no softball involved. There was, however, a masseuse who showed up, doling out 10 minute massages to employees, with the choice of either Swedish or Therapeutic style. Rumor has it that the Therapeutic massage made recipients sweat a bit from the attention given to deep tissue healing. Massage is the new softball.
Also quite different was the location. Employees relaxed under the shade of Henry Cowell redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains and enjoyed BBQ chicken, ribs, dogs and various and sundry fixins’. The smoke rising to Heaven was a sweet-smelling thank offering for such meaty bounty.
Before the feast began, Scott Reno, Owner and President of C & J, expressed delight in revitalizing this decades-old tradition. He also thanked God for His faithfulness to this business over the years and all the relationships it has generated and sustained.
The feast was glorious.
The fellowship was more-so.
The presence of active children more-more-so.
Take a moment and enjoy the pictures of this wonderful event.
And you’ll note that someone ended up crashing out before arriving home. Some things never change.
A special thanks goes out to Scotty, Danny, and Duane for tending to the BBQ pits. Well done! (or should we say, “Perfectly done”?). And also to Laurie and Scotty Taylor and Cynthia Cote for all their preparation. THANK YOU!!!
Enjoy the show!
